The good ol' Space Invaders game developed using Pygame Motivation, Challenge & Accomplishment Motivation: On my journey of seeing what the hype about Python is all about and learning it, I came across a book 'Python Crash Course' and this game is inspired from the boilerplate project given in the book. Space Invaders is a single player, freeware clone of Taito's Space Invaders. The objective of the game is to achieve a high score. The player has control of a canon at the bottom of the screen and must successive destroy waves of advancing alien ships. This is a simplified version of Space Invaders, so we only have 4 types of sprites -- aliens, the bombs the aliens drop, the laser cannon, and the laser beam that shoots out of the cannon. The variable aliens is an array of alien sprites, bombs is an array of bombs dropped while laserCannon is the laser cannon sprite and beam is the laser beam.
